Olá pessoal

Este tópico, principalmente, teve origem depois que consegui estabilizar o overclock do processador, o clock das memórias (queimou duas memos, tive de comprar outras) e o NB frequency que com mais memos, fica instavel facilmente, e ponderando que, pela estação do ano atual, outono, não vê-se temperaturas maiores de 25º

Outros testes foram feitos nesse sentido, nos tópicos abaixo, mas onde a preocupação não era tão "pesada!". É... a experiencia nos aprimora

Sempre fui ávido por compilações de kernel depois que aprendi o que era isso. Uma coisa que me deixou intrigado no mundo linux era como uma distro, com mesmo kernel que outra, consegue ser mais lenta.

E muitas vezes, um kernel específico pode alterar significativamente o uso em linux, ou melhorar o folding. Então, bem vindos a este tópico

Na época, ainda apenas em outro forum (GdH) eu conheci o projeto omnislash do colega hqxriven... e algum tempo depois, o script gerador de kernel do colega bernardo.

Se jogarem no google, vão achar o script. Infelizmente ele só foi feito para ubuntu, que era a distro trabalhada na época.

Depois disso, cansado do ubuntu/kubuntu que, mudava "sem eu querer" de ambiente grafico, e cada vez eram meras horas esperando seus 702Mb de instalação, eu mudei de distro. Tentei várias, dentre fedora, mandriva (ainda tinha) o kurumin linux com kernel compilado (desastre...credo... pena não conhecer o folding na época, mas o tempo de boot era 10segundos menor)

E conheci o arch, daí fui ao fedora, voltei ao arch, tentei o kubuntu, voltei ao arch, e enfim, não adianta. Estou com o arch até hoje.... e o motivo, dentre outros, também é o kernel e seu método de compilação. Confesso que traí o arch quando acabou o AIF (Script de instalação) mas acabei me rendendo à wiki e ele voltou aos meus braços

Antes de prosseguir, porém, um briefing

Muitas distros, as mais usadas diga-se de passagem, tem por padrão vários scripts. A exemplo

no arch linux, para você instalar o java da SUN/ORACLE faz-se necessário baixar o instalador, executar, entrar dentro de /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins e criar um link simbólico para o arquivo libnpjp2.so. No kubuntu, instalar o java, o próprio instalador já faz isso....

vejam a instalação para kubuntu do folding, por exemplo. É tudo automatizado.

Bom ou ruim? eu fico em cima do muro. O grande lance é que script é feito em um dado momento, em situação X. não se tem garantia que vá funcionar. Claro, distros mantidas por grandes grupos (Fedora que tem atrás a RedHat, Ubuntu, com a Canonical, e outras) a chance de problemas é menor, mas no caso do Mageia, que é um fork (derivado de) do mandriva, visto que a mandriva está bem mal das pernas, isso pode ser a diferença entre funcionar e não....

O caso do kubuntu, eu exponho no anexo. Vejam quantos atalhos tem... é tudo script. Claro, alguns dizer-me-ão, tá.... agora o rc.d caiu, é systemd... fato... mas notem que atalhos estão ali..... se cada um deles decair em meio segundo o tempo de boot, serão 5 segundos.... então

ainda fico em cima do muro, mas o arch é meu amigo, e nada me falta ainda.

assim... como é possível uma distro ter X segundos de boot, e outra a metade.

Outra coisa... porque eu tenho de baixar uma ISO de 600mb, e instalar ela com 2Gb, se metade disso tudo eu não uso? mas capar eu não posso, dá pau.....

daí veio meu interesse por kérneis. Eu poderia criar meu kernel e manter ele por bom tempo. Capo tudo o que eu não uso, e não vou, e deixo ele enxuto.

caríssimos, hoje eu tenho preguiça, mas já fiz kerneis que carregados, davam 250mb... eram prá lá de enxutos. O kernel atual tem 512Mb rodando....

Bom... e patches.

Daí que vem o melhor do mundo linux. Os patches. Algumas distros "safadinhas" incorporam patches de melhorias. O mais clássico é a inclusão dos patches do Con Kolivas (patches ck) que realmente melhoram o kernel (já mostro) e outros como o BFS e o BFS/CK

Para quem não entendeu, ainda o que é kernel... lá vai.

imagine um quebra cabeça de 10x10 metros... no meio disso tu pões uma peça. Uma peça apenas..... essa peça é o kernel. Ela transforma o que tu digita, clica, lê em linguagem binária pro pc, e dele traduz o que vem. O que vem depois é tudo peças a ser ligadas ao kernel

Já imaginou teu pc, rodando windows 95 com o que tem de mais moderno a nivel de hardware, qual seja, tablet integrado na tela, touchscreen, blu-ray, surround 7.1, e previamente projetado para armazenamento em nuvem?

no windows 95 impossível, porque só a partir do XP se cogitou tudo isso..... no linux, sim, é possível. Desde que o kernel em questão assimile tudo isso, é perfeitamente possível

Antes de dizerem que "é tudo teoria da conspiração e que não ouviram ser necessário a compilação de kernel" vamos lá

Recomenda-se, no entanto, a compilação do kernel para assegurar que seu Linux é otimizado às necessidades do ambiente em que o sistema irá funcionar. Empresas que trabalham com alta demanda e necessitam de sistemas personalizados, usualmente recompilam seus kernels de modo a otimizar o hardware que têm à disposição. O processo de compilação é, de certa forma, simples e envolve passos bem documentados, mas em distribuições como Fedora, CentOS, Suse e Mandriva que se baseiam em pacotes rpm, é altamente aconselhável gerar os pacotes nesse formato para o kernel em vez de simplesmente compilá-lo e instalá-lo a partir do código fonte, uma vez que estes sistemas são construídos para trabalhar e gerenciar RPMs.

Voltando.. então para X kernel, poderá ter-se X patches.

No caso do arch fica muito fácil, mas muito mesmo.

mas, eu não vou citar aqui como fazer para A, B, ou C distros, visto que demanda um tempo que esse tuto não tem por prache exigir....

vamos apor, apenas, os testes.

No que me pautei: vários kérneis, com seus patches, são exímios foldadores, mas carecem do devido tratamento se, porventura, tu tiveres de usar o sistema. Eu uso linux, diariamente, e só windows para jogar...

não tem sentido, assim, eu manter um kernel que, tenha um TPF de 2 minutos em uma WU, e que esse TPF suba a 6 minutos, quando estou ouvindo uma música, e a 8 quando ouço música e navego.

Então, nesse sentido, tentei realizar os testes que dão-nos uma ideia de como o linux "adulterado" se comporta.

o teste foi assim. 1 arquivo de 120Gb copiado para uma unidade (btrfs/ext4 para ntfs) e depois 1 arquivo de 120Gb copiado simultaneamente para duas unidades (unidades destino NTFS)

  • projeto 6098.
  • madvise ativado manualmente
  • sem carga. Teste com carga no final desta bateria, ao comparar os diferentes kerneis com e sem carga
  • kernel stock não possui bfq

Sim hallaor... mas... deixa eu "aprimorar minha tese"

o que me refiro é o seguinte.

Veja que nos testes eu fiz com carga, meia carga e sem carga

e ainda sem o X ativado (o modo grafico do linux) para atestar o quanto pesa cada item. Se eu achar que o X influencia, vou em linha de comando. O X pode ser diferente, mas... em linha de comando é tudo igual. É o kernel, patches e pronto.

Em windows, quem influencia o folding pode ser o anti-virus.... o próprio driver de vídeo, se for o driver windows, por exemplo, vai usar o processador; alguns firewalls idem; o firefox, por exemplo, influenciará se não desativar o gpu na renderização; um registro sujo... um ccleaner pode alterar as coisas......enfim

a exemplo: eu fiz over nas GPUs e tive um IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL. Eu sabia que era placa de vídeo.... mas, pelos tutos da vida, me diriam "limpa memória, veja driver de alguma coisa; etc;

No windows "tudo pode" quando a questão é estabilidade e "tirar o máximo dele". Até um scandisk não feito, que gera fragmentação, pode alterar o TPF.... sabe porque pode? porque no windows, se não desativado, a desfragmentação automática entra. Buenas, ela vai entrar porque o uso do disco tá baixo, mas do processador está altíssimo.

Vai jogar o TPF lá embaixo

Exemplo. Kernel vista e kernel seven praticamente são os mesmos, mas..... ambos tem um comportamento muito diferente.

e outra... qual o kernel para comparar com o windows? seria o RT, mas RT a quanto? 150hz? 200hz? Por "comparação" deveria ser, pelo menos 250hz.....

porque EU ACHO? porque o audacity, por exemplo, não funciona se o kernel estiver a menos de 200hz.... agora... isso é confiável? não sei.... Será que ele não altera no windows para quando "ele entrar"? não sei....

Então, por isso eu não "adotei" o windows. e outra, para windows tem uma série de comparativos, mas para linux não, e minha ênfase aqui no CdH sempre foi linux, windows eu uso para jogos, dificilmente eu opero em windows. A exemplo..... eu usei 2 vezes o windows neste mês. Uma pra jogar, e outra pro folding, e ainda tive de tirar o over porque perdi 3 WUs coisa que em linux é raríssimo eu perder por over.

Toda "minha base" eu portei ao linux, inclusive planilhas do serviço, para não ter surpresas. Por isso que, eu dou enfase, ao linux. O windows eu tenho usado para jogar e para algo que eu não consigo fazer em linux, por exemplo, dá pau no linux, salvo meus arquivos pelo windows (por isso que abandonei, infelizmente, o btrfs) e reinstalo o linux

sem windows, eu até vivo, mas sem linux não.

No linux, eu "tenho mais padrão" para trabalhar.... Se eu trabalhar com windows, eu teria de foldar em linha de comando, e ainda assim ficaria difícil porque eu não tenho como "sair do modo gráfico" do windows, para trabalhar com, digamos, "imparcialidade"

mesmo na linha de comando do windows, na verdade, os serviços ficam ativos. Então eu teria que trabalhar com Várias enfases" porque a linha de comando é emulada. Outra solução seria o DOSBOX, mas daí o folding não rola.... então.... não tem um padrão específico

Aliás... windows sem ATK e com ATK é comportamento bem diferente também em processadores AMD.... enfim. Entenderam né

e, daí meus caros, eu teria de trabalhar com várias enfases.... e:

Pessoal... estou no aguardo entre hoje e amanhã o folding terminar a WU que está processando e vou fazer um terceiro kernel, juntando os patches dos outros que testei. Pelo que vi são compatíveis em sua maioria, e o lqx tem coisas que o BFS não tem, e vice-versa

tentei incrementar a parte de patches ao kernel lqx, mas não deu muito certo. Ou o kernel não necessita, ou não é feito pra ele, deixa assim.... sei lá

enxutei mais o kernel, tirando coisas que eu não queria. Pus o BFS como padrão, kernel frequency em 1000hz. Diferença de 1mb no tamanho do kernel (61 para 50mb, como eu gosto de linux :D)

Tem uma variação de tempo muito grande entre os TPF em testes de processador em qualquer situação.

Kernel stock, do arch.... 3.11, com kernel em 300hz. - de 12:51 a 34:51

kernel CK - com NUMA ativado, 1000hz, "on demand" e madvise - de 19:13 a 33:50

Exceto nesta situação:

Uma coisa que eu queria saber é para que serva o modo NUMA. Teoricamente, qual é o impacto dessa opção na dinâmica do sistema?

Outra coisa que acho importante é que coloques as tuas impressões, ou melhor, conclusões a respeito dos testes realizados. Se não os tem prontos, quem sabe deixa por escrito qual é o plano de testes, explicando o porquê de cada um e a conclusão será esperada ao final de todos prontos. De repente, após o desenvolvimento dos testes você se dá conta que faltaram alguns cenários não previstos no delineamento do experimento, então na conclusão expõe essa dúvida como conclusão e propõe novos testes. É assim que se faz ciência, um passo de cada vez.

CONFIG_NUMA:

Enable NUMA (Non Uniform Memory Access) support.

The kernel will try to allocate memory used by a CPU on the local memory controller of the CPU and add some more NUMA awareness to the kernel.

For 64-bit this is recommended if the system is Intel Core i7 (or later), AMD Opteron, or EM64T NUMA.

For 32-bit this is only needed on (rare) 32-bit-only platforms that support NUMA topologies, such as NUMAQ / Summit, or if you boot a 32-bit kernel on a 64-bit NUMA platform.

Texto retirado da ajuda da config do Kernel. Como o processador que eu tenho aqui é um Phenom II X4, não optei por essa configuração, deixando-a desativada. Para o Core i7 (que está na assinatura, mas está esperando a casa nova para ser reativado), a ajuda do Kernel antigamente nem dispunha dessa informação. Fazia menção apenas a sistemas Opteron e EM64T, o que não incluía o Core i7. Agora sabendo, quando atualizar o sistema no i7, vou deixar essa opção ativada.
