Dúvidas sobre o Folding@Home

Pessoal, estou foldando com o cliente v7 aqui no PC do trabalho. Hoje o pessoal do TI trocou minha antiga Geforce 8400GS por um Radeon HD5450... Configurei ela para trabalhar no folding também. Pergunto, dentro dos parâmetros coloco algo do tipo max-packet-size = small, igual a configuração para CPU??? Abraços.

Recomendo nao utilizar no folding, pois vai consumir muito recurso da cpu para poucos pontos.

se tu quiser, pode usar o BETA no client-type, e o small... mas reitero o que o eriba disse, muito pro luxo e pouco pro bucho....

a radeon vai usar um núcleo do processador, e não vai produzir mais do que 50% a menos que o teu processador. deixe no TEU PC, em ambos

mas no trampo, só o processador mesmo.

Nessa VGA não compensa, cogito até que a geforce renda mais que a ati...(tinha uma aqui e quando testei rendeu 800ppd...) sem falar que deixa o pc muito lento.

ilkyest, acho que esse parâmetro(max-packet-size) não funciona em GPU, funciona?

Ae galera, coloquei o parametro de max-packet-size small, mas parece que estão vindo WUs maiores, estou foldando uma agora com 3 dias de duração. As duas últimas foram de 2 dias de duração (cerca de 3 dias ou mais de trabalho)...por que será que aconteceu isso?

Além do (max-packet-size = small) você está usando algum outro parâmetro? tipo o advanced ou o beta ou nenhum desses? Está usando Uniprocessador ou SMP? qual o cliente?

Você consegue me explicar com mais detalhes a sua afirmativa que a Radeon vai usar um núcleo do processador... Estou observando no AfterBurner o uso da GPU e algumas vezes ela fica zerada e mesmo assim continua tendo ganhos no Folding... Fato que comprova as suas palavras. Mas aí fica a minha indagação, por quê?

2) não é garantia meu caro que venham WUs menores, mas facilita bastante

Malz pela demora, trampo tá corrido aqui.

Eu fui na parte de Expert>Add e coloquei: Max-packet-size small

Será que fiz alguma coisa errada?

tá... ponha no slot também.. só pra forçar... porque se tem argumentos "repetidos" ele volta ao padrão, daí assim, ele vai voltar e o slot vai forçar de novo

eu só consigo trabalhar na ZETA17 fazendo isso. pondo beta em expert e beta no slot.....

ah! tire o advanced, ou bigadv, se não ele força as grandes também

Alternativas:

1) tenha certeza que está, o folding, instalado como administrador

2) instale ele com a opção "only for me". Eu não sei como está multi-usuário em windows, sei que há pouco tempo atrás ele não funcionava

3) eu nunca instalei ele para iniciar automaticamente. Eu vou em personalizado e coloco "start manually" e tiro o screen saver também

4) se o problema persistir, tente "pegar na saída" o programa: baixe o gtk para windows, instale e reinstale o folding

5) e se ainda assim não funcionar, instale o 7.1.38, tem o link aqui

ah! outra coisa jorno.... eu não consegui manter mais o over no meu pc no folding. Pode ser over e o windows tá matusquelando.

só pra critério de análise. no meu pc, depois que fizemos todo aquele arcabouço, que o senhor me ajudou a overclockar ele, daí deu uns paus, troquei a bios, e tal....

o turbo v-evo fez over de 3712 na máquina... rodou o prime 95 por 4 horas e meia sem BSOD... mas não foldou...... pra você ver

mas, faz assim.; Ali bugou o gtk... gtk tem o cairo junto (coisas de linux, :D)

se não der certo, ainda, dá pra por uma WM para rodar, com o debian básico, ou outra distro minima, e podes tentar novamente

Pessoal, estive pensando a respeito do folding em placas de vídeo e gostaria de compartilhar informações sobre esse modo de processar usando a GPU.

Sei que esse core_17 roda usando OpenCL, que é uma linguagem de programação (até onde eu sei) que placas de vídeo AMD e nVidia dão suporte. Nesse novo horizonte a nVidia leva pau da AMD, cujo suporte dos drivers é bem melhor, ou seja, placas medianas AMD rendem tanto quanto uma top de linha nVidia. Embora seja assim, para mim foi um grande avanço, pois somente deste modo pude ter suporte nativo do Folding@Home em Linux para minha placa de vídeo nVidia, embora neste cenário ainda tenhamos a AMD excluída (aí o problema é com os drivers que a AMD desenvolve para Linux, historicamente lixos), meu rendimento usando a GTX 670 aumentou de 35K PPD para 74K PPD.

O que me chama a atenção é em relação ao rendimento que observei utilizando o Core_15 com QRB há algum tempo atrás. A GTX 560Ti fazia pouco mais de 90K PPD, o que é bem mais do que a GTX 670 faz hoje (lembremos que no Windows a GTX 670 não ultrapassa 67K PPD). Vocês saberiam me dizer quais são as diferenças entre os cores 15 e 17? Por que um rende tanto mais e o outro menos?

até onde sei tanque é que foi posto no core17 mais átomos, e ele foi desenvolvido para um "perfil mais forte"

“Oi eu sou Yutong, sou um desenvolvedor de núcleos GPU aqui na Folding@home. Hoje eu quero dar a vocês uma atualização sobre o que nos estivemos trabalhando ao longo dos últimos meses. Vamos dar uma olhada nos três principais componentes do desenvolvimento de um núcleo GPU. Primeiro, temos OpenMM, nossa biblioteca de código aberto para simulações de MD. Ela é usada pelo FAHBench e pelo núcleo 17. FAHBench é nossa ferramenta de benchmark oficial para GPUs, e todos os dispositivos compatíveis com o OpenCL. Estamos muito felizes em dizer a vocês que foi recentemente adicionado ao conjunto de testes Anandtechs GPU. E núcleo 17 é o que seus clientes Folding@home usam para fazer ciência. A propósito, todas essas setas significam apenas que todo o processo de desenvolvimento está interligado.

Então vamos voltar um pouco no tempo.

No ano passado em outubro, nós concebemos o núcleo 17. E nós tínhamos três objetivos principais em mente. Queríamos um núcleo que ia ser mais rápido, mais estável e fosse capaz de suportar mais tipos de simulações. Mas por causa maneira como nossos antigos núcleos 15 e 16 foram feitos, foi muito mais fácil para nós escrever o núcleo do zero.

Então em novembro, começamos a reescrever algumas das peças-chave para substituir algumas funcionalidades pré-existentes. Dois meses apos isso, em Janeiro, as coisas começaram a se reunir. Nossos Servidores de Trabalho, servidores de atribuição, e servidores cliente foram modificados para dar suporte ao núcleo 17. Começamos também uma equipe de teste interno, pela primeira vez, usando um canal IRC no Freenode para fornecer feedback de teste em tempo real.

Em fevereiro, núcleo 17 tinha um Beta público de mais de 1000 GPUs.

E aprendemos muitas coisas valiosas. Uma delas era que o núcleo não era tão mais rápido quanto parece na NVIDIA. Embora na AMD os coisas certamente pareciam mais claras. As coisas ainda davam problemas ocasionalmente, e bugs ainda estavam presentes. Assim, voltamos à prancheta de desenho para melhorar o núcleo.

Em abril, adicionamos um monte de novas otimizações e correções de bugs para o OpenMM. Testamos um núcleo linux pela primeira vez em GPUs. E nossa equipe de testes interna tinha crescido para mais de 30 pessoas. E isso nos traz até hoje.

Agora Apoiamos muito mais tipos de simulações, variando de grandes solventes explicitos, até sistemas de até 100.000 átomos. Melhorámos a estabilidade dos nossos núcleos. Agora temos uma base de código sustentável. Adicionamos suporte para Linux pela primeira vez. Também é muito rápido - então, tenho certeza que a questão em sua mente é, "quão rápido é?" Bem, vamos dar uma olhada. Na GTX Titan Alcançamos de 50.000 pontos por dia Até 120.000 pontos por dia. Na GTX 680, Alcançamos 30.000 pontos por dia Até 80.000 pontos por dia. Na AMD HD 7970, Alcançamos 10.000 pontos por dia Até 110.000 pontos por dia. Na AMD HD 7870 A Vimos saltar de 5.000 pontos por dia para mais de 50.000 pontos por dia.

Já estamos planejando suporte para mais dispositivos Intel no futuro, como os i7s, placas gráficas integradas e Xeon Phis. Pretendemos acrescentar mais projetos ao Folding@home conforme o tempo passar, então pesquisadores dentro de nosso grupo podem investigar mais sistemas de interesse.

E como sempre, queremos que as coisas sejam mais rápidas.
